SPACE (JULY 8TH- JULY 12TH)

This week, we are blasting off to Space! We are learning all about planets, stars, and rocket ships. Keep on reading for daily activities to do with your kiddos this week.

Supplies needed:

  • Paint
  • Paint brushes
  • Paper
  • Markers
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Pretzel Sticks
  • Butterfly Pea Tea
  • Lemon Juice or Lemonade
  • Sugar or Honey
  • Star sprinkles

MONDAY CRAFT: HANDPRINT (OR FOOTPRINT) ROCKET SHIP

  • Gather up your supplies, paint, paint brushes, paper and marker
  • Paint the palm of the hand whatever color you would like your rocketship
  • Paint the fingers (or toes) red and orange, they will be the flames
  • Stamp print on the paper and wait for it to dry for a few minutes
  • Draw the wings and tip of the rocketship, window and any other designs

TUESDAY SCIENCE: GALAXY LEMONADE

Check out this recipe from Inthekidskitchen.com

Ingredients

  • 5 Tablespoons tea containing butterfly pea
  • 10 cups boiling water
  • 1 cup lemon juice or lemonade
  • Sugar or honey, as desired
  • Star sprinkles
  • Ice

Prepare the tea at least one hour in advance and allow to cool.

  1. Boil water, add the butterfly pea-containing tea and let steep at least 5 minutes.
  2. Remove tea leaves and allow tea to cool for at least 15 minutes. Then place the pitcher of tea in the fridge to cool completely.
  3. Fill tall glasses with ice and fill 3/4 of the way with iced butterfly pea tea.
  4. Stir your sweetener of choice into the lemon juice (sugar, honey or other).
  5. Pour about 1/4 cup sweetened lemon juice into each glasses and watch the color change.
  6. Add star sprinkles, if desired, to complete the galaxy effect and enjoy!

  • Gather your mini marshmallows and pretzel sticks
  • Print out our Big Dipper Page above and use your ingredients to make your own constellations!

  • Touch the Brightest Star: by Christie Matheson

FRIDAY ACTIVITY: Stargazing

  • Wait for the sun to go down and take the littles outside.
  • Look up and try to find constellations that you made on Wednesday.
  • Try to find the brightest star.
